Cotton rope is soft to touch and doesn't "bite" as much as hemp/jute rope. It's recommended to use it in bigger diameters (the most common one is 8mm). Moreover the softness of the braiding lets the rope stretch a little bit under tension. Keep that in mind when you use it.
